Spiders in our Sleep

A leaky facet never made for the best meditative focus in temperatures that suffocate every inhale and exhale. Honest mid-August weather in rural low country. Every sweat bead a cooling drop.

Just as you fall off to sleep–false alarm; your skin is surely crawling and an unwelcome creepy crawly visitor has entered dangerous territory and must be abolished.

But not without the first jolt of an anxious grotesque pat down. Only to find a damp bed sheet soaked in sweat. Late night debunking my mental on the myth we swallow up to 8 spiders a year. Point proven by google finger research operations; well according to sleep.org.

Rest easy my friend, our nocturnal critters are far too busy wandering the depths of your residence searching for a scrumptious bug or two for consumption.

Why not commend the oh so virtuous beauty of such a small critter? Webbing together a miracle of organic engineering before the time a sowing machine met the needle and thread.

Charlotte may have been caught in a web of mystery. But there is no mystery–here. Only tall tales spoken by the creeks in the floor and walls that stood the test of time. The foundation of this low country home invokes a euphoric state of serenity. Even the most unpleasant critters could scurry by you leaving not a care or worry in the world.

a larger than life critter over standing my tiny human form. A dare not blink. I dare not run. I feel not fear. Yet a charge of energy and a craving for endless adventure. Dare I– climb on the back of my new found friend and take on the night.

Down came the rain
And washed the spider out.

Rain drops falling like atomic bombs. We dodge every drop fleeing to safety. waiting, plotting, and resting til morning.

Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain.

A new dawn awakening my hairy giant friend. My oh my, have the tables turned. Once enemies now sidekicks avenging freedom. All eyes in operation all feet grounded — up up and away we go! Trailing a silk line of remembrance in attempt to weave together an enchanting entrapment for a later harvest.

All to only find the secrets of the universe being transported through the hypnotizing center of a spiders web.

So the itsy-bitsy spider
Climbed up the spout again!
